Why Put a Donkey with Cows?
This is a popular google search right now, and if you’re not familiar with farm life, this may sound a bit silly to you. Donkeys don’t just go with cows, they can also be found with sheep and horses! So, why would a farmer place a donkey with these other animals?
It turns out, Donkeys are extremely protective, and will fight to protect the herd. As many of you may know, horses, cows and sheep are skittish. When approached by a predator such as a coyote, or maybe some feral dogs, the “prey” will run, however, the donkey will not! Donkeys will stomp, bray loudly, and if need be, they will kick the predator! Additionally, donkeys have excellent night vision, and great eye sight in general. A coyote lurking at night, or stalking during the day in the distance, can’t sneak past the donkey without getting caught! Donkeys serving this duty on the farm are commonly referred to as “guard donkeys” Unbeknownst to most, it’s because they make a great bodyguard!
As it turns out, donkeys have a lot more to offer than what we think. As they are protective by nature, they make a great ASS-et to the farm. Ok, I’m sorry if that was a bit much.
